Beyrick de Vries put on an unbelievable display of surfing today to beat an on-form Slade Pretwich to win the Quiksilver Pro Junior 2011 in Durban. Beyrick pulled off a series of innovative aerial maneuvers early on in the 25 minute man-on-man final to win with a heat total of 15.67 points out of a possible 20. Beyrick dispatched of Matt Pallet and Michael February both of Cape Town earlier on in the day and walked away with R18 000 in prize money for his efforts.

“This win means the world to me, I have wanted to win this Quiksilver event for a few years now and I have finally done it. The event is the biggest event for junior surfers in South Africa and it’s a great honour to take the title,” said an extremely emotional De Vries. Beyrick was riding his favourite ‘Nick Blair’ a Protag model he picked up earlier in the year when competing in Australia. He rides a 5’11 x 18 1/2 x 2 1/4.

We have a history on good results in this contest. Last year Shaun Joubert rode his Joistik to victory at 2010 ASP Africa event in Durban.
